Every FamilyTracking feature, explained honestly

A family safety app earns its place on your phone by being useful every single day — not just on the bad days. This page walks through all 22 FamilyTracking features: what each one does, who it's for, and which plan it lives on. Click any feature for a full deep-dive with setup steps and its own FAQ.

Location & maps

Know where everyone is — and where they've been

The map is the heart of the app. These features keep it live, accurate and useful even when a phone goes dark.

Live location tracking

Real-time GPS positions for every Circle member, refreshing in seconds while they move. The foundation everything else builds on.

Live location tracking

Location history

Replay any day as a timeline of routes and stops with timestamps — up to 90 days on Premium+. Facts beat foggy memories.

Location history

Geofencing & place alerts

Draw a zone around home, school or grandma's house and get notified automatically when someone enters or leaves.

Place alerts

Arrival & departure notifications

Quiet, automatic "Liam arrived at school" pings that replace an entire category of family texting.

Arrival notifications

Offline & last known location

When a phone dies or loses signal, the map keeps the last confirmed position with a timestamp — so "offline" never means "invisible".

Last known location

Find my phone

Make any family device ring at full volume — even on silent — and walk to it with on-map directions.

Find my phone

Safety & emergency

For the moments that actually matter

Most days the app saves you texts. On the worst day, these features can save much more.

SOS emergency button

One press sends every Circle member an alert with live location — works from the lock screen, with an optional silent mode.

SOS button

Crash detection

Phone sensors recognize the signature of a car crash and automatically notify your Circle with location if the driver doesn't respond.

Crash detection

Check-in requests

Tap a family member to request a check-in; they reply with one tap that shares their confirmed location. Lighter than a call, clearer than a text.

Check-in requests

Elderly care mode

A simplified large-button interface, one-tap SOS and optional inactivity alerts for aging parents who live independently.

Elderly care mode

Driving safety

Coach new drivers with data, not arguments

Teen driving is the scariest milestone in family life. These tools replace suspicion with facts you can discuss calmly.

Driving safety reports

Weekly summaries per driver: top speed, hard braking, rapid acceleration and phone use behind the wheel, with a per-trip breakdown.

Driving reports

Speed alerts

Set a threshold and get notified in real time when a family driver exceeds it — useful for new drivers and peace of mind on long trips.

Speed alerts

Digital wellbeing

Healthy screen habits, agreed as a family

Optional tools for kids' devices — always visible to the child, never covert.

Screen time monitoring

See daily device time and set agreed limits with downtime schedules — homework hours, dinner, bedtime.

Screen time

App usage reports

Understand which apps fill your child's day and spot new installs, so conversations start from facts.

App usage reports

Web filtering

Block adult content and chosen categories on kids' devices with age-appropriate presets you can adjust together.

Web filtering

Connection & coordination

The everyday glue

Small features that quietly remove friction from family logistics.

Family chat

Private, encrypted messaging built into the app, with one-tap location sharing in any message.

Family chat

Private family Circles

Invitation-only groups of up to 10. Premium families can run multiple Circles — household, grandparents, carpool.

Circles

Battery monitoring

Low-battery alerts for every member's phone, so a dead battery is never a mystery — or a panic.

Battery alerts

Scheduled alerts

Time-based rules like "tell me if Maya isn't home by 10 PM" — alerts that fire only when something is off.

Scheduled alerts

Platform & privacy

Cross-platform support

Full feature parity on Android 8.0+ and iOS 14+. Mixed-platform families never get a second-class experience.

Where to start

Which features should your family switch on first?

Twenty-two features sounds like a lot, but no family uses all of them at once — and you shouldn't try to. The right starting set depends on the stage your household is in.

Young kids (5–11): Start with the live map, place alerts for home and school, and battery alerts. If your child is too young for a phone, a supported smartwatch or GPS tag puts them on the same map. Skip the digital-wellbeing tools until they actually have a device worth managing.

Tweens and teens (12–17): This is where the consent-first design earns its keep. Sit down together, agree on the live map plus arrival notifications, and let your teen see exactly what you see. Add scheduled alerts ("not home by 10 PM") instead of constant map-checking — they're less intrusive for everyone. When the learner's permit arrives, switch on driving reports and speed alerts and review them together weekly.

New drivers: Driving reports, speed alerts and crash detection are the trio. The reports turn vague worry into specific, coachable numbers; crash detection covers the scenario every parent fears but nobody plans for.

Aging parents: Elderly Care Mode, the SOS button and inactivity alerts cover most situations, with check-in requests as a gentle daily touchpoint that replaces the obligatory phone call. Crucially, sharing goes both ways — many older parents like seeing their kids and grandkids on the map just as much.

Everyone: Find-my-phone and family chat are useful from day one, and the privacy features aren't optional extras — encryption and consent controls are always on, on every plan.

Whatever set you choose, make it a conversation rather than an installation. Families who agree on the rules together keep the app installed; families who impose it quietly don't. That's not a moral position so much as a practical one — a safety app only works if it's still on the phone.

FAQ

Questions about features

Which features are free?

The free plan includes the live family map for one Circle, two saved place alerts, 2 days of location history, the SOS button, family chat, check-in requests, battery alerts and last-known-location. Premium adds unlimited place alerts, longer history, driving reports, speed alerts, crash detection, web filtering, multiple Circles and priority support. See pricing for the full matrix.

Do all features work on both Android and iPhone?

Yes. Every feature on this page works on Android 8.0+ and iOS 14+, and family members can mix platforms within the same Circle.

Can I turn individual features on or off?

Yes. Each feature can be enabled or disabled per Circle, and each member controls their own sharing. You can use place alerts without driving reports, or run the app purely as an SOS tool with location sharing paused.

Do monitoring features like screen time work secretly?

No. All monitoring in FamilyTracking is transparent by design: children and teens can see which features are active on their device and who views the data. Safety tools only work long-term when they're built on agreement, not secrecy.
